Description

Philadelphia Zoo Key
The Talking Story Book System was an educational series of recordings in a loud speaker placed near many of the animal enclosures at various zoos. There was about a 1 minute narration about the animal's habitat and other interesting facts.
San Francisco was the first zoological park to feature this key activated device. They implemented this in 1959.
Keys were sold at gift/ souvenir shops or at refreshment stands throughout the park and kids just loved working their key in the talking books.
The first designs utilized an elephant style key and it was a mechanical system where rotating the key would hit a switch to activate the recording.
This zoo has featured several animal styles and colors over the years.
This
Green Triceratops Dinosaur
key
was issued in March, 2021 and will be out of production when the BIG TIME dinosaur exhibit ends later in the year.  This is a life size animatronic display of 24 prehistoric animals and these keys will be obsolete when the attraction ends its run.
This key has never been used and is pristine condition.  An odd feature with this key is that they did not produce hem with a hole for a neck lanyard.  An indent where this hole should be is visible but it is simply not there.  No other zoo key is minus this hole.
This key will work at other zoos such as, Cleveland, San Francisco, and Oakland.
These keys are becoming rare and collectible.
