The Van Noy-Interstate Co. was an interesting organization that operated news and tobacco stands, concessions and restaurants, and hotels along railroad lines that housed travelers and railroad crews. They had contracts with many railroads in the era before trains had dining cars, and their presence was to be found along thousands of miles of railroad lines. One of their notable employees was the young Walt Disney, who hawked their products on the Pacific RR between Kansas City and Jefferson. They also published travel materials and souvenirs, such as this book, which has many fine views of California in the WWI era. There are views from all over the State - Mirror Lake in Yosemite, a train through the Sierra Nevadas, a birdseye view of San Francisco and several street-level views, coastal scenes, elevated view of Oakland, the casino and natatorium at Santa Cruz, the Hotel Del Monte, Hotel El Paso de Robles, an oil gusher in the San Juoquin Valley, agricultural scenes, El Capitan, Overhanging rock at Glacier Point, Venice by night, Mission San Juan Capistrano - and many, many more too numerous to list.
