Description
Welcome toAntiques & Moore!
This listing is for a gorgeous late 19th or early 20th Century French Sterling Silver sauce/gravy boat with attached under tray. The gravy boat has pouring area at each end and has a handle on each side at the middle. It has a curved upper edge, an oval pedestal base, an embossed swag surrounding the entire body and three flowers around each handle. Both the gravy boat and tray have a beautiful engraved border on the exterior just below the top rim and around the edge of the scalloped shaped edge of the tray with small embossed flowers at the lower curve of each scallop.
Sauce boat on tray measures about 3 1/2" high, 8 3/4" long and 4 1/4" wide (not including handles).
Oval tray measures almost 10" long and 6 1/4" wide. Weighs 650 grams.
The silver is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws and reflecting minimal signs of normal wear.
The silver is marked in several places on both the gravy boat and the tray with French hallmarks. The punch marks are so small, that all but the Sterling mark is difficult to make out. This piece has so many fine details that it was most certainly made by one of the best French silversmiths working at the turn of the century. I'm sure the maker's mark is present, but again, we were unable to identify maker. This lovely gravy boat/tray was purchased from a very nice GA Estate.
