    Description

11 items related to the Spanish and Mexican Ranchos of California, including booklets, maps and postcards. The Ranchos were vast tracts of land granted by the Spanish and Mexican governments to retired soldiers and other citizens, often worked by Native Americans in poor conditions.
    1) The Historic Ranchos of Los Angeles, graphic map by "Boyle" (portrayed for California Federal in commemoration of the City's Bicentennial 1781-1981). The ranchos were land grants and these cover the area that makes up today’s Los Angeles, with some names carrying over. Great western graphics. Measures about 24"x29" unfolded, in good condition with some creasing along bottom edge.
    2) The Romance of the Ranchos by Palmer Conner, copyrighted 1939 by Title Insurance and Trust Company (Los Angeles). 44 pages, with a small color map of "The Old Spanish and Mexican Ranchos of Los Angeles County". The map and pages are in very good condition, but there is a chip to front cover and prior owner's name on front endpaper.
    3) A Map of the Missions, Presidios, Pueblos and Some of the More Interesting Ranchos of Spanish California, Together with the Routes of the Principal Land Exploration Therein, Published by Westways, c. 1956 by Automobile Club of Southern California. Huge map folds out to 32"x46", in very good condition.
    4) Rancho Los Cerritos, small foldout guidebook, undated.
    5) The Spanish and Mexican Ranchos of San Fernando Valley by W W Robinson, 1966, 14 page booklet from the Southwest Museum, good with prior owner's name in corner and museum address hand-written on back.
    6) Casa De Adobe Handbook, 1973, 22 page booklet from the Southwest Museum, very good save prior owner's name in corner.
7-11) 5 postcards--Two of Lummis Home, CA State Historical Landmark and three of Casa de Adobe, very good unused condition, hand dated 1977.
