This stunning antique moonstone festoon necklace and earrings set is English in origin and dates to the late Victorian period circa 1890. Victorian moonstone festoon necklaces are rare; complete sets are virtually unheard of! The moonstones are cabochons and bezel set - these are a combination of oval and round shaped gemstone drops. In the necklace a total of 21 moonstones, graduating in size from 5.5mm (L) x 4.5mm (W) x 2.5mm (D) at the outer edge to 9mm (L) x 7mm (W) x 3mm (D) at the center. The largest moonstone is the center drop, oval shaped measuring 12mm (L) x 6.5mm (W) x 2.5mm (D). The six moonstones in the two drop earrings measure approx. 6mm (diameter) x 2.5mm (depth). This classically beautiful necklace is all original and in excellent condition. Cracks noted within 3 of the moonstones, however this is to be expected in a piece of this age and delicacy and do not detract from the overall integrity or beauty of the piece. The earrings are marked for 9K gold and this has also been verified through acid testing. The earrings are screwback. The total length of the necklace is 12 inches (30.48 cm) and the length of each earring is 2 inches (5.08cm). The total weight of the necklace is 5.7 grams and the earrings (together) 2.7 grams.
